The Family Ministries area wants to provide, develop or guide you to the resources you need to develop family ministries within your church.

Counseling Referral Handbook

• Lists known licensed and non-licensed Christian Counselors in the state of Oklahoma.
• Information obtained primarily from our Directors of Missions and Southern Baptist churches in Oklahoma.
• The counselors listed are ones that the associations and churches are referring to for their counseling needs.
• This handbook is not a complete listing of all the Christian Counselors in our state, but it is a beginning for many communities. In addition, this resources lists support groups in area churches that you may refer to or call for assistance in beginning your own support groups. (Free)

Marriage and Family Idea Books

• The Marriage and Family Idea Books are published by LifeWay Christian Resources.
• The books offer a variety of resources that will help enrich marriages and enhance parenting skills-resources that provide biblically sound answers to the difficult questions of life.
• Sample articles from HomeLife, ParentLife, and Living with Teenagers are also included in the Idea books. (Free)

Covenant Marriage Movement

The Covenant Marriage Movement seeks to affirm the importance of establishing and maintaining wholesome lifelong marriage relationships. The BGCO has a couple of resources to help you in promoting Covenant Marriages in your church and community.

Oklahoma Marriage Covenant -

• A document for Oklahoma's pastors, priests, and rabbis to sign committing themselves and their churches to perform "covenant marriages."
• By signing this document, pastors and churches are committing to four things:
  • a waiting period of 4-6 months before presiding over a couple's wedding ceremony
  • 4-6 sessions of premarital counseling
  • encouragement of the couple's spiritual formation
  • the training of mentoring couples to assist newly-married couples
• This Covenant document is available to churches, associations and ministerial alliances through the Family Ministries office at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. (Free)

Covenant Marriage Commitment Cards -

• These cards are available for couples within your church that are already married.
• It allows them the opportunity to commit to a covenant marriage relationship by signing a commitment card.
• It reinforces the sacredness of marriage and helps remind couples of their commitment to each other.
• The Covenant Marriage Commitment cards are available through LifeWay Christian Resources at 1-800-268-1343. (A free sample is available from the BGCO).
