Fall Tax Seminars - NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS! Register online by clicking on a date below.

The Information Services Office holds two types of tax seminars in several locations throughout the Fall. The tax seminars are $40 per person per seminar.  We do offer a limited number of scholarships for smaller churches to attend the tax seminars.

Basic Tax Seminar

In 2008, there will be five Basic Tax Seminars. Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. The classes run from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Click on the event below to register online.

The basic seminars will deal with interpreting income tax laws for churches, pastors, and staff members. Items to be covered will include:

  • How the new income tax laws impact and affect all church staff members.
  • What is now required in the areas of:
    • housing allowances
    • professional expenses
    • retirement planning
    • Social Security
    • Charitable contributions
  • Help for treasurers and financial secretaries in proper reporting to the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Aid in preparation of the W-2 form for all staff members

This seminar will also provide instruction for those who prepare church payrolls and the payroll tax reports. It is especially designed to aid ordained staff in understanding fully the tax opportunities available to them and it deals extensively with the housing allowance and auto and professional expenses.

Internal Controls & Legal Issues Seminar

In 2008, there will be two Internal Control & Legal Issues Seminars. Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. The classes run from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Click on the event below to register online.

The two Internal Control & Legal Issues Seminars are designed for those who have attended one or more of our basic tax seminars in the past. We will go into more depth than we could cover in the basic seminars.

  • Internal financial control dealing with self audit, counting procedures, contribution records and many other related issues.
  • Basic legal matters such as incorporation, constitution and bylaws, lawsuit potential, hiring and political activity.
  • New legislation and tax code changes - regulations regarding contribution records, the Deason-Dalan Ruling, accountability, per diem rates, etc.
  • Designated giving - exactly how to handle designated gifts as to whether or not contribution credit can be given, etc.
  • Educational benefits - what is deductible and under what circumstances.
  • How churches can avoid conflict with the IRS
  • Other pertinent issues as well.
