Mission Service Corps is an official part of the North American Mission Board, and was approved in 1977 by the Southern Baptist Convention as part of a concerted, intentional strategy to help reach North America for Christ. MSC missionaries answer God's call to serve in unpaid mission positions, averaging 20 hours per week in ministry for 2 years or longer.
MSC missionaries are endorsed by their local church and assigned by the North American Mission Board. Basic MSC Training prepares the missionary to serve through personal development, spiritual maturity and professional knowledge of available resources. There is access to specialized ministry training such as Church Planter Basic Training, Ministry Evangelism, Chaplaincy training, etc.
A structure for supervision is part of the missionary system. The structure includes a negotiated covenant between the supervisor and missionary which delineates both task and personhood goals. The covenant provides a written basis for the relationship and for performance evaluations. It is designed to prevent task-related misunderstandings.
