One Day Initiative
About One Day
Have you ever wondered how you could impact your small group or Sunday School leaders and mobilize them to impact lostness in your community AND make disciples? It's called being missional, equipping every leader and person in your church's small group structure to follow Christ and literally look at their neighborhood as their mission field; and view the people we work with, live next to, and interact with through the eyes of a missionary.
The One Day Initiative is designed to help your church accomplish this vision. To this end, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma has developed the following resources to help, not just every church... but every class or group in our state become missionaries to our neighborhoods.
The Strategy
First, conduct a One Day Orientation for your church leadership, especially your Sunday School and small group leaders. People from all over Oklahoma, including pastors, lay leaders, housewives, education and student ministers have helped produce 60 training modules for your church to choose from in order to train your leaders. We encourage you to conduct your One Day Orientation training in your own church, or join your association to provide this training. Each module has a teaching outline, listening guide, handouts, and some powerpoint presentations so that your own leaders can teach others in your church.
Show the J.D. Greear "Missional Small Communities" video or Bob Mayfield livecast/video
We recently recorded J.D. as he led a live audience through a video presentation developed just for One Day! This video is about 30 minutes in length and J.D presents the vision of every class or small group in your church living for a greater purpose than just a weekly assembly! This video is free to churches who register to participate in the One Day Initiative. Another alternative is the BGCO Sunday School Specialist Bob Mayfield will be going through the "5 C's of Missional Small Groups" as a live webcast on Sunday August 8th. This is available live, or for download (August 10) or on a DVD (August 16).
Following Your One Day Orientation meeting - Mission Projects!
Encourage every group or class in your church to conduct a local mission project. Imagine the impact if every class in every Southern Baptist church in your community conducted these mission projects. Let's be candid, most of us have people who have studied missions and evangelism in our groups for years (maybe decades), and have never done anything outside the walls of their class or home. Nothing. By having a class mission project and letting them choose and organize the project through their group, the church will probably have more people engaged in missions than ever before. Now imagine the impact of dozens, perhaps hundreds of class mission projects occurring in your town. Your community will begin to see local churches who are interested in them, and who care about their community. The church becomes relevant. Couple this relevancy with the new Bible training your leaders are receiving through One Day, and you have the makings of spiritual transformation in your town. Combine personal care through mission projects, church members living as missionaries, with solid Bible teaching and prayer for God to do something supernatural in your community. Now your church is impacting lostness.
