So you want to start a college and/or single adult ministry in your church? The best place to begin is with the following:
-
Who do you want to target; what age group?
-
Build a ministry around one age group at a time and only when you have leaders.
-
Do you have singles attending your church in the target group?
-
Do you have singles committed to reaching out and building a ministry to the College and/or single adults in your community? This is a must, it cannot be the teachers or pastors' commitment, it must be the college student or single or it will never succeed.
-
Provide space for Sunday Bible Study.
-
Provide a budget for materials, leadership training, conferences and retreats.
-
Group your ministry around the person, needs and social relationships;
18-22 (College age), 22-32 (young single, never married) 35+ (never married, single again) 60+
-

Things to remember if your ministry is to succeed long term:
-
Put a high priority on Bible Study, relationships and discipleship as the foundation for your ministry.
-
Make big investments in leaders, those who lead must have a passion for people and God's word.
-
Free your people up to minister to people in their community.
-
You will reach more college & young singles if you will put a larger focus on weekday ministry and relationship building.
-
Lost people want relationships not church events and programs.
