Chaplaincy Fire Department

Danny Ringer - Chaplain, Elk City Fire Department

The Fire Chaplaincy is a “cup of cold water ministry.” The chaplain helps provide immediate needs in situations presented. It may be in a crisis, a pastoral care role, a preaching opportunity, a witnessing moment or the presence of ministry in the midst of a horrific incident.

Chaplains stand in the gap, providing ministry to fire fighters, their families, and victims caring for their immediate needs, linking them to their own home churches or, if they desire, helping them to find a church home.

Danny Ringer has had the opportunity to serve as a Fire Chaplain since 1988.  His first experience was as a volunteer fire fighter and chaplain with the Mountain View, Oklahoma Fire Department.   In 1994 he became chaplain and a volunteer firefighter for  the Weatherford, Oklahoma Fire Department.  Currently, he is  the chaplain for the Elk City, Oklahoma Fire Department.  Danny is a charter member of the Oklahoma Fire Service Chaplains and the Federation of Fire Chaplains.

A Firemans’s Prayer

When I am called to duty, God
Wherever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late,
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and
Hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property.
And if, according to your will,
I have to lose my life,
Please bless, with your protecting hand,
My children and my wife.
